HISTORY OF CRT and the MARY JANE LYDAY CHAPTER
On March 1, 1929, during the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Convention, a motion was made and passed that the DRT sponsor a junior organization known as the “Children of the Republic of Texas".
The Mary Jane Lyday Chapter of the Children of the Republic of Texas was chartered in Marshall, Texas on November 12, 2005. Of the fifteen charter members, five are great-great-great-great-grandchildren of the chapter's namesake. The late Sylvia Kennedy, grandmother of the five, wished to pass her extreme interest in Texas history, as well as her pride in her ancestors, on to the younger generation. Thus she encouraged the John Tilley Edwards Chapter DRT to establish and sponsor the Mary Jane Lyday Chapter CRT.
